As you know, Spain is a Catholic country. That’s why they celebrate many holidays with reference to the Bible. Every June 24 is celebrated the “San Juan”.
In addition to being a religious celebration, it´s also the way to welcome the summer! This holiday is celebrated all over the world, but probably not like in Spain. There´re some traditions during this holiday, especially in the area of Catalonia and Valencia. During the hours before to the night of June 23 the whole city goes to the beach with friends and family.
Once on the beach, they lay a fire and dine all together. There is a very old tradition: at 24:00 hours it´s necessary to start the day of San Juan by jumping 12 waves of the Mediterranean sea.
This holiday is celebrated on June 24 because it is exactly 6 months before Christmas. It’s easy to remember!
To enjoy the party, we recommend you book one of our Hostels in Valencia, just 15 minutes from the beach by public transport.
